What sparked your passion for design?
I don’t see myself as a designer, more a creative thinking person who looks at an objective and then works out creatively and strategically what is the best way to communicate that objective. I remember the time that sparked my passion for design was sitting in an accounting class and thinking do I really want to do this? Really…. No what I wanted to do was make stuff, print stuff, paint stuff , wear stuff I made, so I did. I knew I didn’t want to be was an artist. I wanted to do things that solved problems this lead to working in creative agencies where I could talk to clients and solve problems.

How creative were you as a youngster?
I think I was; I remember taking things apart and creating new things, working with my dad to make furniture- it didn’t always work but I had fun trying, Helping my mum to design my own range of designer clothing and wearing it when I would go out. Dad thought I was going to be a carpenter and Mum a tailor.

Do you come from a creative family? Were they supportive of your desire to be a designer?
Yes in the sense that creative thinking was everywhere especially when it came to problem solving. My parents fostered this sort of thinking. Dad was always fixing and inventing, reading books, how to manuals and then making things happen and the same with Mum, but she focused on cooking and tailoring.

What sort of education and training have you had?
I went to your typical high school, and then after a few detours here and there I went to RMIT University and completed a degree in Graphic Design and Visual communication. I also went to Award School, I liked it so much I did it twice.

Who did you want to work for when you first entered the industry?
I wanted to work for “The Campaign Palace” - they were the most creative agency going.

Tell us about your first project and what do you feel about it now?
I can’t, I have bad dreams thinking about it… please don’t make me do it.

What is your preferred software to work with and what has been the greatest advancement in technology over the past 5 years? A black marker and an A3 bank pad. That's where my ideas come from, then they come alive thanks to Adobe CS3 and a few other programs.

What are the various mediums that you’ve worked with and is there any that you would like to explore? I love print, I am a fan of the web, TV is fun, Ambient, Stand design allows you to immerse yourself in your design, the closest thing I have got to architecture so far! I don’t really have a favourite. For me the medium is not important, it coming up with a great idea.

Is digital technology going to eliminate the need for print?
No. We love to collect stuff, touch it, hold, cherish it. Think about the books you have, the magazines you keep and even CDs/DVDs especially the beautiful packaging that some of these things come in. I am sure things will change. The chore of reading the daily newspaper drives me nuts, I much prefer reading my news online.

How would you describe your work?
I really don’t know how to describe it, I leave it to others to look at my work and come up with their own opinions

What are your plans for the future?
To do good work that I am proud of

What sort of company would you like to work with next?
I could work for a company that values the importance of a good idea and strong strategic thinking, then I would be happy.

What is your creative outlet outside of design?
I love to ride my bike, and story telling (what can I say I’ve got kids)

What is the best designed bar in Melbourne?
I don’t like bars that much anymore, but I do like a good coffee. I recommend Newtown SC in Brunswick St Fitzroy, Carlton Espresso Lygon St Carlton and Tre Bichieri Rathdowne St North Carlton.

What are your top 5 websites at the moment?
www.theshowroom.se
www.miniclip.com
www.monocle.com
www.boreme.com
www.thefwa.com

What CD are you currently listening to and is it any good?
I don’t really listen to CDs anymore, I listen to Podcasts. I listen to “Drum n bass Arena”, “Hospital Records”, Monocle, Tedtalks, a whole variety of stuff.

If I was a font, I’d be...? Orator
