Australia spoke and Kraft listened.
Cheesymite is the new iSnack 2.0.

The Australian public has decided and the new name for the latest Vegemite product is in. The polls were taken from 30,000 people across this great Vegemite eating land and the chosen name is Vegemite Cheesybite.
The Vegemite Cheesybite jars will begin to replace iSnack2.0, which are yet to be released and no doubt will be collectors items and held onto for years. Let's all hope the preservatives are good so that the Cheesybite goodness doesn't age. The new Cheesybite labeled jars will appear on shelves from December 2009.
Cheesybite had a 36% of the vote from 30,000 people. Coming in a second place with 23% was Vegemite Smooth and not to much surprise from our office Vegemite Creamymate polled in last place of the six options.
There has been much discussion of late as to whether Kraft and their advertising and marketing partners released iSnack2.0 as an honest and dedicated product name or an allegedly cunning marketing ploy. Most people in the industry would be leaning toward 'gimmic' it would seem from the amount of column centimeters. Then again, maybe Kraft may have just gotten it awry. The 27 year old web designer from Western Australia must be feeling some sense of loss. The man was given national fame, a chance to appear on TV and the bragging rights about naming the product, not to mention the immense sense of satisfaction every time he walked down aisle 3 and saw his clever title sitting on multiple jars all lined up neatly in a row. Never was the adage '15 minutes of fame' so aptly applied, he has gone from being a chapter in the annals of Kraft history to a footnote under the spreads section.
Whether Kraft listened to the people and changed the name or they tried to pull a swift one, Vegemite Cheesybite is here to stay. Unless we all revolt against this name in a couple of months and make Kraft change it again, who knows it could be fun to have the peoples choice spread renamed on a regular basis. A safe bet would be that Cheesymate will still stay at the bottom of the poll. You can find out how the top six non-creative names ranked at vegemite.com.au.
