cs4 hits the stores
The Creative Suite 4 Family
More new features than one mere mortal article can hope to cover.

The new version of Adobe’s Creative Suite hit the stores on October 15th however the big question always going to be about what’s new within version 4 that will make us fork out our hard earned cash.
The good news is that there seems to be more bang for your buck in the new version – too much to list within one mere article – however one of the key features is a new tabbed interface for working with concurrently running Adobe CS4 programs where multiple applications can be opened inside multiple tabs contained in a single window.
Adobe CS4 is also developed to perform better under 64-bit and multi-core processors although Adobe CS4 64-bit will not be available for Mac OS X.
InDesign now offers a live preflight function that allows you to preflight while you design instead of waiting until the end.
Photoshop now offers revolutionary 3D painting and composition, allowing you to paint directly on 3D models, wrap 2D images around 3D shapes, convert gradient maps to 3D objects, add depth to layers and text and get print quality output with the new ray-tracing rendering engine.
Illustrator now features a multiple artboards function that creates files containing up to 100 artboards of varying sizes and displays them any way you want – overlapping, side by side, or stacked. You can then save, export, and print artboards independently or together and save them as multiple page PDFs.
The editing programs on Creative Suite 4 now bring it up to the same level as Final Cut Pro and there has also been an increase in the functions offered to the web applications.
All up, there are four versions of Creative Suite 4 available; Design Premium, Web Premium, Production Premium and Master Collection. The pricing structure in Australia and the UK has caused some concern; pricing in the US is much cheaper, even with the current conversion rates, seeing many people jumping online and purchasing their versions instead of picking them up from local vendors.
Adobe have been running a series of workshops for CS4 with the final handful concluding throughout December. For more information, check out here.
More information on Creative Suite 4, including downloadable 30 day trial versions for you to test out the new features yourself, are available from www.adobe.com.
