ghostpatrol - agideas highlight 2010
His work has been described as 'Dark, Moody, Energetic and Passionate', ... and quite frankly, anyone that names their studio “Mitten Fortress” is ok with us.
“I would have to say without a doubt that the agideas standout for me was Ghostpatrol. To see an artist that can work across so many mediums with such a distinct style, driven by absolute passion to create was nothing short of inspirational.” - Jenna Lewis / Artisan
Ghostpatrol himself is a man of few words but his work speaks for itself. His work ranges from high profile yet simplistic street art to the intricate pencil and marker sketches in his notebooks. Collaborating with his partner Miso at their ‘Mitten Fortress’ studio a large proportion of the work that Ghostpatrol creates is illegal street art.
For someone who has only spent four years dedicating his life to his passion, often not sure where his next paying job is coming from until an email arrives in his inbox, Ghostpatrol has quite a following locally as well as internationally. Beginning from stencil and street art he is now creating commissioned murals and soft sculpture as well as continuing with fine ink drawing.
‘Incredibly innovative and driven by creative impulses, with an infinite injection of energy, Ghostpatrol will always surprise', says Street Art Uncut author Matthew Lunn. ‘He works with whatever media he can find or afford to purchase, including but not limited to spray cans, paper, pens, markers, wood, clay and so on.'
Ghost Patrol represents an example of emerging talent in the creative industry responding to they’re own set of ideas and influences, in turn coming up with an incredibly authentic body of work. His “street art” and prints often feature delicately articulated folktale creatures, not unlike those you would meet on the way to Hansel and Gretal’s cottage in the woods. Some of the Creatures are a little scarey, some cutesy, some have found a friend and some have wound up in a spot of bother. Regardless of the subject, the medium and surface seems to play just as much a part of the spectacle.
Presenting at agideas Ghostpatrol spoke about spending his days sitting in his studio producing the work he wants to produce and proving to everyone in the audience that you can most definitely make a living out of doing what you love.
Hearing first hand how a successful artist has ascertained such a position, is truly inspirational – and seeing it in the flesh helps such achievement become a tangible option for many aspiring Creatives regardless of their chosen field.
