robogals global - sydney - competition
July 01, 2010
Robogals Global Inc is a not-for-profit student organization which aims to increase female university enrollment in science, engineering and technology courses.
The organisation sets to achieve this predominantly by training university students in LEGO robotics and then sending them to primary schools to teach primary school girls. Founded in 2008, we now have 11 chapters across Australia and the United Kingdom. Our work has been published on various media channels, including a feature on primetime national TV the 7PM Project, live interviews on ABC Radio 774 and Nova 100, and newspaper appearance in The Age’s Odd Spot and the Herald Sun.
As part of what we do, we like to connect university students. For our annual conference this year to celebrate our growth and cause, we will install 30 life-size robots in Sydney.
We are now welcoming submissions for designs and construction plans from artists, for the event in 6-11 September 2010. This is an exciting opportunity for interested acquaintances/members of your community to showcase their work in a public space, guaranteeing greater exposure for the artists themselves, as the event will receive immediate media coverage. Furthermore, contestants are eligible to be in pick for a $1000 grand prize, which will be awarded by a panel of reputable judges; and online voting will determine a $500 crowd favourite prize.
It is hoped that you will kindly pass along this message to your creative community immediately, for a chance to literally be the talk of the town.
The deadline for submissions is the 1st July 2010, where we will decide on the best 30 robot designs to be displayed in the streets of Sydney. Details of the competition can be found on www.therobotsarecoming.com.au
