Asuza is what happens when people who already do way too much decide to start their own world of retro-futurism. People of the new world needed clothes so Jonny Goldcoast and Daniel Preston armed with PHDs in Retro-Futurism, started Asuza, their answer to the Japanese multi-national and have been converting disciples since 2007.

Asuza’s hallmarks are geometric panels, prints and a tip of the hat to Japanese architecture and the influence of ancient cultures that are complimented by the all-important finishing touches - leather-trimmed jackets and linings that make you want to wear garments inside out. With bands like Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts, Children Collide, MSTRKRFT and The Black Lip’s from Atlanta spreading the message of retro-futurism far and wide boutiques from around Australia and across the world saw their first season sell out. Little wonder when you’re combining forward-thinking designs and dedicated craftsmanship from a time long since passed – the best of past and present.

The Winter 09 tee collection is a direct reflection of the Asuza philosophy. The quest for a quality fit is teamed with graphics influenced by 70s science fiction, 60s psychedelica, and 80s television like Beyond 2000. It’s what happens when Mad Max makes love to Blade Runner in the back seat of George Jetsons space car. The common thread is the ability to draw inspiration from the past and move into the future. Prismatic refraction's, transcendental meditations, cults and self-help books, mental atmospheres and redundant technology are all re-imagined onto well-cut, functional, stealthy, black and white canvasses.

Jonny Goldcoast is one of the founding members of VICE magazine in Australia. He still works with VICE art directing advertising campaigns and puts on VICE's parties and events. He sometimes wears a dress and plays in psychedelic Viking punk band The Amazing Phillips Sisters which features members from Children Collide and Sailors and Swine. Dan Preston has worked in the Australian fashion industry for years heading up design for companies such as Mambo and Quiksilver. He also lived in Japan for a number of years collaborating on various projects apart from fashion, and frequently travels the globe freelance designing. Dan plays in the Melbourne indie-electro band Outrun who have recently released their debut full length album 'Futurenature' through Inertia music.
