william orbit - my oracle lives uptown (kobalt)
June 02, 2009
It would be too easy to introduce William Orbit, despite being true, as "that guy that did Madonna's 'Ray Of Light' album". Orbit has had a long and infamous career as a songwriter and producer over the past couple of decades, often mixing way out electronic sounds with ambient synth pads, unusual beats, classical influences and even sometimes a dose of good pop. In fact, it could best be described as being at it's peak with... erm... Madonna's 'Ray Of Light'. In fact, if you loved the sound of that album but can't really stomach too much of Madge, then you'll positive fall over yourself to get hold of 'My Oracle Lives Uptown' (although tracks like 'White Night' have a vocalist that would fall under the category of a 'I-can't-believe-it's-not-Madonna'). Six years in the making, this is a great example of how one producer/songwriter can achieve an unmistakable trademark and timeless sound.
