lowrider - diamond amongst the thieves (illusive sounds)

Every once in a while, you pop an album on to review and you're totally taken by surprise. Whilst I had no initial expectations, 'Diamonds Amongst The Thieves' just left me rather pleasantly surprised. Lowrider drip soul. It manifests itself not only vocally but in the instrumentation, the arrangements, everything about this album just comes across as being a class act. Hailing from Adelaide, Lowrider manage to fuse hip hop and soul in a way that is so dramatic whilst still being very easy on the ear. Check out the simplicity of tracks like 'Friend' to get an indication of how brilliant Lowrider are.
