kristine w - the power of music
June 17, 2009
Unless you're well acquainted with classic dance tracks of the 90's, Kristine W may not be a name that is instantly recognisable. Let's just say that, at the start of the 90's, she was responsible for a club classic called 'Feel What You Want' that has seemingly since been remixed every couple of years for another round of consumption. Since then, she has had a handful of albums; some have been warmly received whilst others have not really made much of a dent. However, along the way, she has managed to build a fiercely loyal fan base.
'The Power Of Music' is the new album from Kristine W and, whilst the die hards will be foaming at the mouth and singing praises for their favourite disco diva, it may be a little hard going for the casual listener. It isn't a bad album by any means - better than what most other dance artists would produce - the problem is more in the arrangement of the tracks, both musically and as a tracklisting. The album begins with some very urban influenced tracks which could leave her dance fan base a little cold. Then it moves into territory that would seem a little more familiar, especially with the recent singles 'Walk Away' and 'Love Is The Look' however the musical arrangement on these is all so similar that I think the real melody on many of the songs is lost in the production by numbers.
'Feel What You Want' resurfaces along with her less than average covers of Diana Ross' 'The Boss' and 'I'm Coming Out' - gay diva, anyone?
