u2 - 3d
April 23, 2008
When 5.1 surround sound first hit the scene, it could've easily been considered something of a gimmick. How many times had you heard a friend boast about their new home system, telling you about how they were 'sitting in the sound'? And let's face it; when people think of 3D films with their shoddy blue and red glasses, it tends to be aimed at the gimmick level. You can leave those preconceived notions at the door for 'U2 3D' however because this is just something else. Admittedly, as a biased U2 fan, I was bound to enjoy the experience although nothing is going to prepare you for the sophistication of the technology that has been used. In fact, watching the film at IMAX Melbourne, there were people in front of me frequently reaching out at the Bono just hovering above them because he seemed that real and tangible. Coupled with the incredible sound, this is easily a new benchmark for live band films. The only downside is that the film runs for 80 minutes, nearly 40 minutes shorter than your average U2 concert. However, if you're looking for value for money, 'U2 3D' delivers one memorable experience you'll be talking about for weeks after. For more information, check out the official site here although we'd suggest calling IMAX Melbourne now to book your seats.
