little boots - hands (atlantic)
July 13, 2009
For those who are unfamiliar, Little Boots is the latest female artist to sweep the UK, with her album recently coming in at #5. On the back of lead single 'New In Town', Little Boots has found comparison to Lady Gaga, Goldfrapp and even New Zealand's Ladyhawke (who we reviewed a few months back). Heavily influenced by the electronic movement, Little Boots has a kind of pop that will appeal to those who are more inclined towards alternative than to cheesy commercial dance. This isn't to say that Little Boots is capable of achieving this level of pop however there is enough substance on the album to convince those who hate pop music that Little Hands is actually a true talent. A little research will unveil that Little Boots was once a vocalist for a three piece jazz band as well as for dance pop act Dead Disco. When she does achieve pop greatness on the album, it really is an incredible moment with tracks like 'Stuck On Repeat', 'Earthquake' and 'Tune Into My Heart'. 'New In Town' has been released locally in Australia giving a clear indication that her record label here is expecting similar success on our shores.
