Being 'it' is often so fleeting and can often be as much a kiss of death as it is a compliment. This may apply to Anjulie. No doubt, being of Guyanese-Canadian background, comparisons will be drawn to Nelly Furtado (of ortuguese-Canadian) although this comparison certainly has some basis. They both have a certain silkiness to their voices and the musical production on Anjulie's debut self titled album has a similar quality. This, of course, is not a bad thing by any means. Anjulie co-wrote all the songs on her debut album and produced the album with Jon Levine, keyboardist from the Philosopher Kings. With that, the quality of the material on the album is just top notch, from the uber-catchy opener 'Boom' through to the cruisey ballad-esque 'Fatal Attraction', the sassy 'Some Dumb Blonde' and the new single 'Love Song', which has been remixed fantastically by UK remixers Bimbo Jones. 'Anjulie' is an album that has immediate grab and so many hooks, it's bound to knock you out for a sixer. Definitely grab a moment to check it out.
