You may have expected that an act like Lady Gaga may have seen some action in our review section some time back considering this reviewers frequent preference towards all things pop. Well, surprise! This is the first time Lady Gaga has graced the hallowed pages of www.getartisan.com.au! Which begs the question, what took so long?

The answer is simple - this reviewer seems to have a bit of a love hate relationship with the Gaga. Do I like her brand of pop music? Most certainly! Is there something about her image that just doesn't sit right? Most definitely. The fact is that the quality of the songs is there and there has been a string one great pop song after another. Looking over the tracklisting for 'The Fame', you have pop classics like 'Just Dance', 'Love Game', 'Paparazzi', 'Poker Face' and 'Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)' and that's just the first five songs! Elsewhere, tracks like 'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' and 'The Fame' are just as good as any of the other songs that have driven Lady Gaga to the top of the charts so, on the whole, you would have to say that 'The Fame' is going to go down as one of the better pop albums to grace this side of the Noughties.

Having said that, there is a blandness about Lady Gaga herself that can often push her target audience away. In interview, she can often come across as being aloof, self referential and a little too serious for something that is, essentially, pop music, fashion and fun times. But then, the same complaints were said about Madonna when she released her first album back at the start of the 80's.

Let's just watch with interest and, in the meantime, enjoy the pop music for what it is - an invitation to have a good time.
