the script - the script (sony bmg)
September 18, 2008
Hailing from Dublin, The Script are likely to find frequent comparison to the likes of Maroon 5, One Republic and the current spate of pop/rock bands who meld melody with a bit of a urban-lite groove. In fact, 'The Script' is a deliciously smooth sounding record although it can often feel a little too manufactured for it's own good. There are moments on the album where it sounds like they're channeling the spirit of U2 with carefully crafted stadium rock anthems although The Script don't seem to possess the same ability with words that Bono does. By no means is 'The Script' a difficult listen; it's easy on the ears and certainly worthy of repeated play. It's just you might prefer something that doesn't feel so contrived.
