the ting tings - we started nothing (columbia)
October 02, 2008
When the album is titled 'We Started Nothing', I guess you can safely assume we're dealing with a band who is just creating music for the sake of it. Quite simply, their current single 'That's Not My Name' is more catchier than the current bout of flu doing the rounds although a hell of a lot more fun. As quirky as Toni Basil's 'Mickey', which the track sneaks some of it's backing track from, it is the ultimate in cheer leader style blonde bimbo chants. The Ting Tings seem to have a knack at creating the adreneline rush you get from the perfecf three minute pop song; check out tracks like 'Great DJ', 'Fruit Machine', the very Blondie inspired 'Shut Up and Let Me Go' and the Talking Heads' groove of 'We Walk' and 'Impacilla Carpisung' for great examples of this. You're not going to find anything revolutionary on The Ting Tings debut however that's exactly what they promised with the title.
