tina turner - tina! (capitol)
October 13, 2008
Released in the US to coincide with her new tour, 'Tina!' seems to be a US only release at this point of time. This may not disappoint too many people other than the die hard fans though; there is already two Tina Turner compilations on the market and 'Tina!' is simply an 18 track collection of some of Tina's bigger hits. There are two new tracks to conclude the album, 'It Would Be a Crime' and 'I'm Ready' although the general fan reaction is that the tracks are 'ok' but suffer sitting next to classics like 'Nutbush City Limits', 'The Best' and 'Better Be Good To Me'. There are some tracks from her Ike and Tina days along with a few live versions to keep the compilation interesting although there are some rather notable omissions, especially from her last two studio albums, including 'When The Heartache Is Over'. All up, it stands as a great introduction to her body of work (and what a body she still has) although there are better compilations out there that can do it. Hopefully we'll get to convince her to make her way back to Australia although I guess we shouldn't hold our breath.
