pink - funhouse (sony bmg)
November 07, 2008
Last time, she spent over two months touring the country. Now, with a new #1 album and a tour close to sold out, you would almost suspect that she may as well take up residence here instead. While her hit 'So What' has the Artisan office divided, complete with radio battles between the Creative and Recruitment arms, there is no denying that the school yard chant-esque track has won it's way into our hearts. However, is 'Funhouse' anywhere as good as what 'I'm Not Dead' proved to be? Considering that Pink has experienced a marriage breakdown between albums, you would almost expect 'Funhouse' to be notably darker than her previous release. If the next single is an indication, 'Sober' is, indeed, rather somber and a bit of a surprise choice for single material. Elsewhere on the album, it can get a little Janis Joplin with tracks like 'One Foot Forward', where as tracks like 'Bad Influence', 'It's All Your Fault' and the title track 'Funhouse' scream of twisted single material. Lyrically, the album finds Pink in one hell of a reflective mood; understandably, the impact of her marriage breakdown being her muse for this project. It may not be as immediately accessible as what her 'I'm Not Dead' album was however fans will not be disappointed.
