various - artisan: the album volume 3 - 2008 (independent)
November 27, 2008
Maybe we’re biased however I’m sure you would expect us to say that this compilation of local and international talent is one of the freshest you’re likely to find. In fact, the Artisan CD series has a track record of being something of a trend setter. Our first volume had tracks that went on to discover radio and television rotations six months after it was released and Crown even saw it fit to make one of the tracks their campaign sound bed. Nice! And while the first CD was dancey, the second ‘birthday edition’ found a more organic side, although a few of the artists could also be discovered on massively successful soundtracks such as ‘Underbelly’. The third edition comes out in a time where the world seems to be overwhelmed with news of doom and gloom; the economy, the environment and 155 litres of water dominate the headlines. It was time for Artisan to remind people to focus on something positive and to feel the love. With that in mind, and being that summer and the party period is on it’s way, the third volume is a collection of groovy tunes with a feel good vibe.
However, it wouldn’t be one of our comps if we couldn’t proudly boast that three of the tracks are a world exclusive! One of our personal favourites is from Perth based act Team 9 (who have featured on ALL the Artisan comps) with their track ‘We Don’t Disco Like We Used To’. It’s a funky little dance number with a heavy retro ‘Dead Or Alive’ feel to it. You can expect to hear extended club mixes of the track out in the clubs over the next few months. Winterpark, whose track ‘Open Up Your Soul’ was on the last compilation, return with the beautiful ‘Wall Kids’ for Volume 3 and is currently getting rotation on music television program, ‘Rage’. Those who have been haunting the clubs for some time will know of Wamdue Project and their classic dance anthem ‘King Of My Castle’, which is currently getting new club remixes out there. We’re very fortunate to have an exclusive radio edit of their track ‘Forgiveness’ to present to you. Julie Kember is a great new find for Artisan and her track ‘Crazy’ is going to definitely resurface in the most surprising of places next year (yes, it’s cryptic but we’re leaving it for you to discover!).
Hailing from Bali, Paam 9 give us the rather cruisey ‘Bon Voyage’ while we get truly international with Los Chicharrons and their track ‘Chicharrons N Boogaloo’. Winston Giles, another familiar face to the Artisan CD series, is back with ‘High On a Feeling’, a track from his new album ‘Lovers’. Melbourne act Rob Care feat Miss V offer another exclusive track to the compilation with ‘Freedom’, and J Nitti feat Sarah C offer up the brilliant ‘Deep In My Soul’, which has recently appeared on the ARIA Club Chart as well as having a high rotation on Nova. Now based in Melbourne, this Italian DJ has also appeared on the first Artisan compilation with their brilliant track ‘Explode (Club Mix)’.
All up, this is another compilation that we’re truly proud of and that we continue to feel the love with. We’re hoping you’ll enjoy feeling the love too.
