the killers - day & age (island)
December 08, 2008
Initial reaction to The Killers latest single 'Human' suggested that they had a new sound that was a cross between U2 and Pet Shop Boys, such was the case of working with producer Stuart Price who had previously worked with the likes of Madonna ("Confessions On A Dancefloor") and his own alter-ego's Jacque Lu Cont and Les Rhythms Digitales. 'Day & Age' is certainly a step away from the traditional Killers sound although it sounds like it's origins may have been heard in the last album when the Pet Shop Boys remixed 'Read My Mind'. There are some amazing moments on 'Day & Age', proving to be an album that continues to get better with each repeated listen. Tracks like 'A Dustland Fairytale' are just pure epic, building from a delicate ballad into a sonic wall of sound. Next moment, they're exploring their more 80's retro pop band moments with tracks like 'The World We Live In' and 'Joyride'. Tracks like 'Spaceman' will be somewhat reminescent of the familiar Killers sound. With a headline at the upcoming V Festival, 'Day & Age' is set to become yet another Killers classic.
