Manchester duo Hurts have been very warmly embraced in their motherland by those who feel that they herald the return of good, old fashioned, electro-pop. Listening to their lead single ‘Wonderful Life’, it’s easy to understand why many people are looking at these guys as being the new Depeche Mode or Pet Shop Boys – moody and brooding electro-pop masterpieces with a catchy, if not slightly serious overtone. Over the years, Depeche Mode have managed to loosen up a little and even laugh at their own seriousness however Hurts still have a rather pensive overtone which makes their new fans giddy with delight. Second single, ‘Better Than Love’ is another ‘we’re serious’ single featuring an equally arty clip that will leave you applauding enthusiastically. The new album also features a rather over the top duet with a little known pop artist named Kylie Minogue who has declared how much of a fan she is of them personally. Much like their electro predecessors, Hurts aren’t afraid of being remixed for the dance floor either, most notably with Grammy winning UK duo, The Freemasons remixing ‘Wonderful Life’. Check them out; they’re likely to make you feel like it is 1984 all over again.
