depeche mode - wrong (mute)
February 26, 2009
In the world of electronic music, there are few names that can be referred to as pioneers however Depeche Mode certainly fall into that category. Since forming in 1981, they've spent the past few decades creating a string of underground and chart hits including 'Just Can't Get Enough', 'Personal Jesus', 'Enjoy The Silence' and 'It's No Good'. 'Wrong' is the first single to be lifted from their forthcoming album 'Sounds Of The Universe' and is due for release on April 6th. It isn't uncommon to find many acts beginning to lose momentum when they've hit a couple of decades in the biz however 'Wrong' is possibly the strongest lead single that Depeche Mode has had since the mid-90's when they released 'Barrel Of a Gun' ahead of 'Ultra'. It's gritty, upbeat however with a downbeat, almost comical lyric. Granted, they're a band that has always cultivated a dark image however a lyric simply revolving around being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong genes is Depeche Mode obviously playing up a little on what people have come to expect from them (much in the same way Pet Shop Boys released songs like 'Being Boring' or 'How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?' - trivia note: PSB said that Depeche Mode's album 'Violator' was the key inspiration behind the album that track came from, 'Behaviour').
A world tour has been announced. Sadly, and unsurprisingly, Australia is not on the schedule. The band seem to elude success here despite having a loyal and devoted sizable fan base.
