pet shop boys - yes (emi)
March 25, 2009
For many Pet Shop Boys, things haven't really been the same since the early 90's when 'Very' was released. Since then, ''Bilingual', 'Nightlife', 'Release' and 'Fundamental' have all had their share of hits however they've never really had a consistently good album since. Is 'Yes' going to break that cycle. Sadly, no. 'Yes' isn't a bad album however it does have the tendency to feel all to same-same after a while with very few stand out tracks to really break it up. When it does step forward, it does it in spectacular fashion with songs like 'Did You See Me Coming?', 'More Than a Dream' and 'Pandemonium'. Otherwise, it can feel a little too 'Pet Shop Boys by numbers', even in the lead single 'Love Etc'. At times, it can even become a little self indulgent; 'Legacy' is a hard six and a half minute listen! However, die hard fans will be happy and with the limited edition bonus disc version out on the market, it is bound to keep them screaming 'Oh, Yes!'
