For a band well known for catchy, out and out rock anthems, 'No Line On The Horizon' is U2 back to experimenting with sound. Unlike 'Achtung Baby' and 'Zooropa', which was the last time the band radically experimented with their sound, 'No Line On The Horizon' is actually steering the band away from obvious commerciality. Lead single 'Get On Your Boots' is a groovy little rock tune however it isn't necessarily an indication of the entire album. Next single 'Magnificent' is aptly titled; one of the strongest tracks that U2 has produced in some time and should win them some chart success. Elsewhere, the chant driven 'Unknown Caller' is quirky yet very likeable, 'Moment Of Surrender' is a sombre, seven and a half minute epic that creates the atmosphere effortlessly but won't be caught for dead on radio. Now that a world tour is beginning to gather dates, we can only keep our fingers crossed that Australia will, once again, be included. With a revolutionary 360 degree stage set, it certainly seems that U2 might be getting older, but are more keen than ever to continue pushing those boundaries. Keep an eye out for the deluxe box set edition featuring a hard cover picture book, poster, CD and a DVD 'Linear' featuring the visuals of Anton Corbijn.
