You would be forgiven for never having heard of Tommy Sparks. This Swede has just released what is, undoubtedly, going to become the Glastonbury anthem for 2009, 'She's Got Me Dancing'. Think MGMT meets Empire Of The Sun with a very, VERY heavy dose of 80's influence thrown in for good measure. As a debut album, it's obvious that no influence is too big or small for Tommy Spark's not to play around with and, as a result, you have an album that just continues to take you from left of centre over and over again. Clearly, the new romantic period has a lot to do with shaping the 'Tommy Sparks' sound although don't take this to mean that it is cheesy or overly-poppy; this is an indie-alternative-electro album that, like many debuts, can get it wrong but more frequently gets it right and, when it does, it's just brilliant.
