5 years on. victoria's design sector 2003 - 2008
May 13, 2010
Design Victoria engaged Wallis Consulting in July 2008, in an effort to sum up industry developments, momentum and trends within the design sector in Victoria between 2003 and 2008, through a detailed research program. Old news? I hear your say. On the contrary, as the saying goes – knowing where you come from is as important as knowing where you are going.
5 Years On serves as an integral resource for all in the industry interested in just how things shaped up in the design industry over a five year period. A slice of time is used to gauge performance in certain areas, capabilities that were recognised; and understand characteristics to the era as well as strengths, potential and core challenges that were faced. The studies demonstrate just how small and medium enterprises use and value design, and analyse the impact design has on Victoria’s economy, environment and society as a whole.
‘Five Years On aims to harness and disseminate this knowledge to enable industry and the design sector to benchmark and improve performance.’ - Design Victoria.
Five Years On. is part of a longitudinal study that commenced in 2003 and is scheduled for completion in 2011. It serves as an update on the initial research conducted by Dandolo Partners and Booz – Allen – Hamilton in 2003, “Victorian Design: Facts and Figures. Developing Victoria’s Design Capability' - Design Victoria.
Findings are key to the review and strategic future planning of industry related efforts moving forward. The document is also a valuable tool in factual insight to the greater picture for all industry stakeholders, emerging or established.
