THE Fortitude Valley’s GPO hotel was a hub of creativity last night (16/09/10), when Artisan hosted the Australian Graphic Design Association’s (AGDA) inaugural Beer O’Clock networking event. A casual affair, the turnout was impressive for a school night.

Those who attended were ransomed for a business card by the Artisan crew, who then bought them a beer.
Tara, from Artisan, said this little exercise had a great result: “we collected more than 75 business cards.”

Phil Hammond, Artisan’s Brisbane consultant said there was a great variety of people, from graduates to business owners all mixing and having a good time. “The event brought out a great cross section of the creative community,” Phil said. “Creatives from all areas got together to have a chat over a beer and network with others from industry.

Stephen from Dalton's, an ex studio owner whose job involves moving between the different studios and talking paper, was a huge support to the event, pushing out the invitations in his travels during the lead-up.

Scott from Formwerx, another great supporter of networking events said: "they're important for graduates and students to get to speak to people in industry".

Freelance graphic designer Carolyn Thompson said of the evening as a whole: "I’m not used to networking events like that, but I felt very comfortable and had a nice evening."

Xenia Consulting’s Maria Lamari, described the night as a great opportunity for meeting people from different parts of the industry, and networking outside ones normal social circle.

With awesome vibes and company, it’s no surprise that all involved are already looking forward to the next one Beer O’Clock. Watch this space, details of Brisbane’s next industry networking event to be announced soon!
