Melbourne's North is definitely not short of great venues at all but The Penny Black is a personal favourite of mine. Situated in the old Brunswick GPO on Sydney Road The Penny Black has absolutely everything you need for a perfect day.

Alternating between summer and winter menus with homestyle cooking the food is amazing. Whether you're there for a few snacks with drinks or a meal with a group of friends you cannot go wrong. There are dinner specials running Sunday – Thursday. The $6 pizzas on a Tuesday go down a treat with a few cheeky pints and the grilled haloumi burger puts all other meals to shame.

A huge advocate for local music The Penny Black have a large stage in the front bar with live musicians playing most nights as well as a dj set up out the back in the beer garden. And what a beer garden it is! With room for around 400 people you can choose between soaking up the sun on the deck, tucking yourself away in a booth or chilling out on the couches under cover.

Next time you’re looking for somewhere new to go for dinner or drinks head down to The Penny Black. The food is awesome, the vibe is amazing and the staff are great!
